The Certified Teacher (CT) position is primarily responsible for creating an inclusive learning environment that elevates the dignity of every child through an interactive and relevant curriculum.
As a CT, you are responsible for cultivating the student’s interest in education to ensure a transformational transition to a successful, self-affirming start in U.
S.
schools.
The CT works collaboratively with the Content Area Supervisor and Instructional Aides to create, customize, and execute student-centered lessons to achieve the goals and needs of students and the program.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write lesson objectives and plans, manage classroom behavior, and provide support to Instructional Aides.
Create and maintain a clean, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes joyful learning.
Design lesson plans that incorporate the non-reader and non-writer demographic.
Participate in initial student assessment and education planning exercises.
Plan and execute innovative techniques for delivering lessons to students with specific vulnerabilities.
Assess, monitor, and adjust lesson plans as needed.
Put students’ voices and choices at the center of learning experiences.
Employ culturally responsive pedagogy that uplifts students’ unique identities.
Establish and promote foundational knowledge and skills of students.
Collaborate with other faculty members in the pursuit of improvement.
Help coordinate the work of support personnel (aides, youth care workers, etc.
).
Manage instructional materials and resources.
Meet departmental and program deadlines to ensure reporting requirements: daily reports, students’ academic assessments, and education progress reports.
Encourage positive and open communication with Instructional Aides.
Complete daily reports and tracker for the program and ensure that all students complete their daily exit tickets.
Support the Education Leadership on special projects to achieve the program mission.
Meet or exceed program productivity expectations on a regular and sustained basis.
Maintain and grow personal and professional skills relevant to the education mission at PCC.
Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field.
Hold a valid certification from the relevant governing authority.
Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate certification by the accrediting body and additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied children.
EXPERIENCE:
Track record of effective, empathetic, transformational work with youth.
Bilingual (with additional knowledge of English and/or indigenous languages).
At least five years of directly related experience.
Experience with migrant populations or children.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Communication: Ability to establish effective relationships with colleagues.
Ability to positively communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means with other Teachers and Instructional Aides.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including good communication skills, listening skills, and attitude.
Computer skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Google tools.

Ability to spend a lot of time working with PCC Departments, directors, and other professionals and must be able to develop good relationships.
Ability to make everyone feel comfortable yet know what and when to share.
Organizational Skills: Ability to keep various ongoing projects organized and files maintained accurately above normal levels of concentration and memory required.
Requires good time management practices and the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at the employer’s sole discretion.
LICENSES: Driver’s License with clear record.
VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to work site and various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
THE DEPARTMENT HEAD MUST APPROVE EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA.
Location: On-Site at Pecos Children’s Center Dependent upon projects deliverables and priority.
Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Background Clearance.
EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD.
