Job Title: Academic Services Specialist Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Director of Advanced Academic Services Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Dept.
/School: Advanced Academic Services Days: 187 Supervises: None Primary Purpose: The Advanced Academic Services specialist will work with coordinators to develop quality curriculum, provide support for campus teachers to strengthen curriculum implementation, and facilitate GT identification and other projects throughout the year.
They will support campuses with GT and Advanced Academic specific training within Professional Learning Communities, interpret and analyze data, support the implementation of GT strategies and differentiation for students and provide personalized professional learning to adult learners.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university Master’s degree preferred Valid Texas teaching certi?cate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned Must obtain the TEA/Gifted (GT) certi?cate/endorsement within one year of serving as a Gifted/Talented Program Teacher Special Knowledge Skills: Training in gifted education, agrees to meet gifted endorsement requirements Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation Knowledge of best practices for Gifted and Talented and Academically Advanced Students Knowledge of International Baccalaureate Programme and Advanced Placement Program (Preferred) Proficiency with technology applications and digital resources Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness Ability to develop and provide personalized professional learning to adult learners Proven track record of student growth and positive evaluations from supervisor Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills Experience: Minimum three years teaching experience in subject area assigned Minimum three years’ experience teaching Gifted and Talented Students Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional and Program Management Work with AAS coordinators to facilitate GT identification and other AAS activities and projects Disseminate information regarding current research and best practices Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies Positively affect Gifted and Talented students through supporting teachers’ understanding of curriculum and instructional best practices Design and create inclusion and sample lessons for classroom cluster teachers Professional Development Work collaboratively with assigned AAS coordinator to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher’s individual professional development and GT student learning Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through collaborative planning through Professional Learning Communities Engage teachers in outside training for advanced and GT students Develop knowledge of personalized learning and competencies involved for students, teachers, leaders and district personnel Evaluate teacher effectiveness in accordance with establish district programs Plan and provide appropriate personalized professional learning for teachers, administrators and staff Improve knowledge and leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities and participate in professional development activities as directed Other Provide feedback AAS and campus principals regarding curriculum implementation Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required Maintain GT credentials – 6-hour updates Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Environment: Work inside; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required.
