POSITION: Administrative Intern (Elementary) EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: 197 PAY GRADE: Admin/Prof PG-3 DIVISION: Academics DEPARTMENT: Campus Assigned REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISES: Supervise mentor program at campus level Supervise personnel as assigned EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three year’s successful teaching experience (teaching level preferred matching level of position selected) Position Function/Purpose To provide leadership in the operation of the school to assist the principal.
Gain experience in an administrative role preparing the leader for an assistant principal position.
Major Responsibilities and duties: Instructional Management 1.
Assist teachers and campus leaders in collaboration that focuses on analyzing what students are expected to learn, rehearsing lessons, and analyzing data.

Participate in classroom walkthroughs to gather trends to provide focused professional development.
3.
Provide coaching and feedback to teachers to promote growth 4.
Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals 5.
Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
School/Organization Climate 7.
Promote a positive student learning environment and positive staff morale within the district by providing in-class support in the areas of classroom management, positive student reinforcement, motivational strategies, and maintenance of positive student rapport.
9.
Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in the decision process.
10.
Provide for two-way communication with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.
11.
Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and students; recognize excellence and achievement.
12.
Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts.
13.
Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
School/Organization Improvement 13.
Participate in required reporting and accounting procedures such as textbook management, attendance, inventory, etc.
14.
Assist in the planning and preparation of the school budget.
15.
Assist in planning and conducting fire and disaster drills.
16.
Orient and monitor the work of substitutes.
17.
Implement policies contained within the current policy handbook adopted by the MISD Board of Trustees 18.
Assist teachers with goal setting to monitor student growth.
Personnel Management 20.
Develop an agenda and conduct faculty meetings.
21.
Assist teachers as needed in classroom instruction by providing coaching and feedback 22.
Assist the principal in teacher assessment to determine staff development needs.
23.
Assist in the selection interview process of campus staff.
24.
Assist with the mentoring process of new hires at campus level as assigned by the Principal Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management 25.
Coordinate routine maintenance requests and needs.
26.
Conduct regular building and playground equipment inspections.
27.
Conduct a building inventory as requested.
28.
Assist in planning and coordinating the energy conservation activities.
School/Community Relations 36.
Attend at least one PTA executive board meeting, all campus PTA meetings, and one meeting of the MISD Board of Trustees and City-Council PTA.
37.
Participate in public relations activities for the school.
38.
Assist the principal in creating positive home-school communication.
39.
Assist the principal in the administration and coordination of the parent volunteer program.
Professional Growth and Development 40.
Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
41.
Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments to include the latest research and development in educational methodology.
42.
Maintain confidentiality.
43.
Serve on district committees/special projects, i.
e.
, grant writing, as assigned by the Superintendent or his designee.
44.
Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned, or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise mentor program at campus level Supervise personnel as assigned Qualification Requirements Minimum Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Mid-Management or supervisory certification or 12 core hours towards Principal Certification Evidence of intent to complete, within one year of application, the principal or mid-management certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Organizational and planning skills Working knowledge of clinical supervision Knowledge of curriculum and effective instruction Ability to work well with a diverse population Communication skills with both staff and parents Minimum Experience: A minimum of three year's successful teaching experience (teaching level preferred matching level of position selected) Terms of Contract: According to district approved calendar Work Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: Emotional – Maintain emotional control under stress.
