Position Status Full Time Classification Title Faculty-9 month Work Location Main Campus-3600 N.
Garfield, Midland, TX Job Summary Instruct students in Government courses in accordance with Midland College policies and procedures.
Instruct students in Government survey courses including United States and Texas government courses.
Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field and teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabus and College policy.
Teach assigned undergraduate Government courses, including dual credit.
Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
Must have knowledge and use of current technology in the classroom.
Required Qualifications In accordance with SACSCOC accreditation requirements, a Master’s degree in Government or Political Science, or a Master’s degree plus 18 graduate semester hours in Government or Political Science (Juris Doctorate, Public Administration, Public Policy and Public Affairs degrees are not eligible) Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, learning management systems (Canvas preferred), and current classroom learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; excellent interpersonal skills Excellent organizational skills Commitment to diversity, commitment to academic excellence, and exceptional service Preferred Qualifications Ph.

in Government or Political Science Successful community college and/or dual credit teaching experience Secondary teaching field in Anthropology, Business, Economics, Government, or Sociology Essential Functions Teach 15 semester hours of Government each Fall and Spring semester Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations published in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks Actively participate in the Government Department, including assisting with the maintenance and development of the government curriculum Actively participate in the development and administration, and reporting of core assessment Continually improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods Plan and organize lectures, and utilize research and reference materials.
Develop syllabi and other learning aids Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, syllabus, and other appropriate methods Serve on departmental, division, and college-wide committees, as requested Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Participate in student recruitment and advising Participate in graduation and other required official College functions Successfully complete Quality Matters certification during the first year of employment Submit required college reports, forms, and timely grading Other duties as assigned Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time The person in this position needs to occasionally move from office to classroom Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds Office and classroom setting Security Sensitivity All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.
