EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Holds license in mental health or degree in Counseling
EXPERIENCE:
One year successful experience working with adolescents in a counseling environment
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provides counseling support services to assigned students and will provide consultation services to all MISD staff to
support the overall mental health goals of the district.
The crisis counselor will strive to reduce student risk factors,
such as stress, anxiety and depression, and support students through development of coping skills and stress
management to ensure the opportunity for student success.
This position is federal/title funded and there is no guarantee of the position if funds are no longer available.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
Provide counseling services and crisis intervention to assigned students.
Provide referrals for service such as medical care, and psychiatric services when needed.
Case manages students as needed.
Document all sessions, contacts, and attempted contacts in the client’s progress notes.
Maintain professional standards through confidentiality agreement, provided treatment, documentation and consolation.
Attend training and professional development to improve skills.
Comply with departmental polices, legal requirements, and professional; ethical and quality standards.
Ability to not only interact and communicate effectively with clients and their families but also with larger school community of educators, administrators, counselors, and healthcare professionals
School/Community Relations
Provide parent education classes on a bi-monthly basis or as needed.
Provide staff education classes as needed.
Administration
Provide principals with written progress reports.
Collect and report data to campus principals.
Keep informed of and comply with state, district and campus regulations and policies.
Other Duties
Perform such other duties as may be assigned or necessary for job effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Holds license in mental health
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong communication and supervisory skills
Ability to work well with a diverse population
Minimum Experience:
One year successful experience working with adolescents in a counseling environment.
