Training and experience in WSB’s rock room.
Have taken Lithology, at least one of the Petrology courses, and Optical Mineralogy.

Staffing Reason Institutional Primary Responsibilities Purpose of Job: Works with the Geological collections to maintain and process specimens for use in undergraduate geology lab classes and for display in the WSB lobby display cases.
The person in this position will identify and organize specimens, clean old labels off specimens, and process new donated specimens.
Also involved with educational outreach.
Duties and Responsibilities: * Clean, organize and catalog (including photograph) specimens of rocks and minerals used in GEOL 1103 as well as donated specimens * Select highest-quality specimens for display in lobby display cases in WSB; prepare and display these specimens with emphasis on samples that Physical Geology students analyze in lab classes * Polish and otherwise prepare recently donated chert samples for display; prepare sample donation documentation * Assist in providing educational outreach activities associated with rocks and minerals when opportunities arise * Select maps from collections for instructional exercises and display * Other duties as assigned * Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times Supervision: direct supervision from Ms.
Jesse Kelsch for day to day instruction.
Ms.
Kelsch will also act as the Faculty Mentor within the STEM Internship Program.
STEM Internship Program: This position is part of the Title III STEM Lobotrack to Success (LTS) SRSU STEM Faculty Internship Program.
Along with the normal job duties, the student will learn from the faculty supervisor about the STEM workforce, different career pathways, research, and more.
Students will gain knowledge, experience, and professional connections in the STEM field.
Students will have access to professional development tools throughout the internship program (resume building, interview practices, etc.
).
Additionally, the student must present at the SRSU Spring Research Symposium.
